Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

Statement from the Premier following National Cabinet meeting

The Rockliff Liberal Government has backed an energy relief plan, proposed today at National Cabinet.

The plan will take a similar approach to the Tasmanian Government’s bill buster scheme, providing targeted energy bill relief for households and business.

Treasurers will meet over the coming weeks to work through the details of the package which will commence in the second quarter of 2023.

The Prime Minister also committed to a $100 million fund over two years to co-develop and pilot innovative primary health care models with states and territories to improve care pathways.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said:

“This is a major win on health reform for Tasmania.

“We fought hard to secure a higher portion of funding than per capita, and Tasmania will now receive $7.97 million from this fund.”

Premier Rockliff also briefed the meeting on Tasmania’s proposal for a state-wide primary care pilot.

“Access to GPs is a major issue for Tasmanians and with our singe statewide health system and smaller population base, Tasmania is ideally placed to be a leader in this space.

“As I have said in recent months, our ambition is to pilot a single employer model, that will allow us to finally bridge the gap between GPs and hospitals and improve access to care.

“We now look forward to continuing positive discussions through health officials to reach an agreement on a Tasmanian model.”
