The Tasmanian Liberal Government has been working hard to reduce serious injuries and fatalities through the Towards Zero Action Plan 2020-24 by committing more than $75 million across 42 initiatives based on crash data and expert advice.
The Road Safety Advisory Council’s Regional Road Safety Forum has arrived in Launceston with the aim of reducing the road toll in Tasmania.
The Launceston forum tomorrow follows the first of the series held in Hobart last Thursday [25 August 2022] and will be followed by another in Burnie on Tuesday.
The Hobart forum saw more than 50 road safety, public health and government experts, industry leaders and community members come together to share ideas to bring down the number of deaths we continue to see on our roads.
More than 40 people have registered for tomorrow’s Launceston forum, which is encouraging, and we look forward to hearing local perspectives on what more can be done to reduce road trauma, as well as views on what is and isn’t working.
The ideas and contributions made at the forums will be considered as part of the mid-term review of the Towards Zero—Tasmanian Road Safety Strategy 2017-2026 and Towards Zero Action Plan 2020-2024, and will assist in determining where we increase our focus.
And, as part of the ongoing efforts to save lives and reduce trauma, the Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering a new fleet of mobile, automated enforcement cameras on Tasmanian roads.
The new enforcement cameras can be anywhere, at any time, making those that speed think twice before putting their foot down and risking death.
