The Tasmanian Government is a proud supporter of the State’s cultural and creative arts sector.
I am pleased to announce that a new Tasmanian wildlife documentary Quoll Farm, set to screen on ABC TV and iview this Sunday, 14 February will feature a soundtrack performed by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO), recorded in Hobart’s Federation Concert Hall.
Our Government, through Screen Tasmania, provided $55,000 in funding for the production, which was co-produced by Bicheno based production company, Wild Creature Films.
Importantly, the production generated an economic injection of around $580,000 into the local economy and employed six Tasmanian production crew.
A TSO ensemble of 10 musicians performed an original score by acclaimed Tasmanian based composer, Maria Grenfell.
Recently nominated for Best Natural History Documentary 2021 at the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers, Quoll Farm tells the story of the remarkable but little known and highly endangered animals which have taken residence in an abandoned farmhouse in Tasmania’s North East.
The documentary follows the quoll family and their new housemate and human guardian, Quoll Farm writer/director, Simon Plowright, as they get to know each other over the course of a year.
Mr Plowright, a naturalist and filmmaker, saw the project as an opportunity to learn more about the creatures, with the hope that he may see a way he can help them to survive.
Our Government’s ongoing commitment to Tasmanian screen production has enabled the screen industry to build its capacity and to develop new stories and service productions like Quoll Farm, ensuring Tasmania’s unique stories, landscapes, people and creatures, continue to intrigue, engage and entertain audiences around the world.
Quoll Farm will premiere on the ABC this Sunday at 7.40pm.
