Excitement building ahead of historic Ashes test

Anticipation is building and Tasmania is ready to welcome the biggest sporting event our State has ever hosted.

The fifth Ashes Test is set to begin this Friday, 14 January and the atmosphere at Blundstone Arena over the five days of play is sure to be electric.

Tickets were snatched up quickly by fans after they went on sale and, with a limited number of tickets still available, I encourage those who haven’t already got one to do so and head along to enjoy some top-tier cricket.

This is an amazing opportunity for our sport-loving community, and for many young cricket fans, this will be the first opportunity they have had to experience such a large-scale, top-level, international event on home soil.

The fifth Ashes Test at Blundstone Arena represents a great outcome for our local economy and is expected to bring about $27 million worth of economic benefit. This historic test match will also ensure that our State is on the television screens in every cricket-loving nation around the world.

There is a COVID management plan in place for the event and mask-wearing is compulsory. I thank Cricket Tasmania, Cricket Australia, and Public Health for the work they have done to ensure the match can be held in a COVID-safe way.

There is no doubt that this momentous occasion will help grow the great game of cricket in Tasmania and stand the sport in great stead for years to come.
