eBook access is a first for Tasmanian schools and a first for Australia

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to ensuring all students, no matter their background or circumstances, have access to a quality education to give them the best start to life.

Our Government recognises that no matter what you aspire to do or be, reading and literacy skills will help you get there – they are building blocks for life.

Today, I am proud to announce that Tasmanian Government schools now have unprecedented state-wide access to an eBook platform through their school libraries.

Libraries Tasmania has worked with OverDrive to provide our 60,000 students in nearly 200 schools from prep to year 12 the ability to browse thousands of curated, age-appropriate books using the Sora app.

There are millions of incredible books out there, and there's a perfect book for everyone.

Now, public school students will have even greater choice thanks to this new platform, which gives learners access to school and public library collections for the latest and most popular eBooks, eAudiobooks, digital magazines, comics, graphic novels and levelled readers.

These collections can be accessed on any personal or school device by Tasmanian Government school students, meaning children and young people will be able to read more books, more often, at school, at home, while they are travelling and when they are out and about.

Excitingly, Tasmania is the first state in Australia to offer access to an eBook platform through all Government school libraries.

Our Government is committed to digital access and inclusion for our students and this initiative creates greater equity with non-government schools.
