Tasmania is ramping up its search for the next wave of elite athletes capable of representing Australia at the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Tasmanian Institute of Sport’s Talent ID for 2032 program aims to identify athletes with the potential of becoming Olympic and Paralympic champions.

Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Engagement and Sport, Rob Fairs, said the program had delivered strong results since its inception in 2023, with several athletes progressing into TIS high performance programs and beyond.

“Many program participants since its launch have gone on to achieve outstanding results at both national and international levels, demonstrating the strength of this pathway,” Mr Fairs said.

“With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games just six years away, this program is helping unlock the next crop of Tasmanian Olympic and Paralympic-level athletes.”

The trials are open to athletes aged 14-22 from all sporting backgrounds. The strength of athletes across a range of markers are tested as part of the trials.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for local athletes to enhance their training and development with the TIS, while experiencing a pathway to the international sporting stage,” Mr Fairs said.

“I look forward to seeing the talent identified through this round and watching them carry Tasmania’s proud sporting legacy forward.”

Testing will be held in Ulverstone, Launceston and Hobart on 20, 21 and 24 April, respectively.
