The second of two rounds of the UCI Mountain Bike Enduro World Cup is underway in Derby following a hugely successful first round at Maydena last weekend.
Today’s amateur race sets the scene for the professional riders to hit the trails tomorrow.
Event organisers have estimated more than 6,000 people will attend each event in Tasmania, with approximately 1,800 of these being interstate or international riders, their support crews and the event audience.
Minister for Hospitality and Events, Nic Street, said the events put Tasmania on the international mountain bike scene.
“The Enduro World Cup is one of the premier mountain bike series on the international calendar, with the two Tasmanian rounds being the only events to occur in Australia this year,” he said.
“This is the third time the event has visited Tasmania with previous iteration, the Enduro World Series, being held at Derby in 2017 and 2019. We’re proud to continue to support the events with $475,000 in funding for the Maydena and Derby events.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government is getting on with the things that matter to Tasmanians, and by showcasing Tasmania’s mountain bike trails as sought-after tourism destinations we know we will see visitors coming from around the world long after the events are finished.
“By backing our events industry and generating wealth for the State through the flow-on benefits, the Government can continue investing in the essential services Tasmanians rightly deserve.”
