Children’s Week 2020

National Children’s Week 2020 is now underway and this year’s theme focuses on children’s right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to a stronger Tasmania where the voices of children and young people are heard and where they can participate, have a voice and be listened to.

Earlier this year we announced Tasmania’s first ever comprehensive, long-term, whole of government Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy.

The Strategy builds on the foundation of our Child and Youth Wellbeing Framework which outlines what our children and young people need to be well and promotes positive, trusted relationships with other people, including friends and caring adults.

Work has progressed on the Wellbeing Strategy and a Discussion Paper, Consultation Tool-kit and an interactive website will be available shortly.

We have also allocated more than $100,000 for the Commissioner for Children and Young People, the Youth Network of Tasmania and the Mental Health Council of Tasmania to have face to face conversations with children and young people across the State.

These conversations will enable all children and young people and their parents and care-givers to have a voice – in both urban and regional forums – in the formulation of the strategy.

Feedback from this week’s Tasmanian Youth Forum “Building a Better Tasmania for young people” (on Friday 30th October) will also inform the development of the strategy.

Children’s Week continues until Sunday. To find out what events are happening in your area, visit www.playgrouptas.org.au/national-childrens-week/
