The Tasmanian Rockliff Liberal Government is boosting police numbers by 31 per cent, with 26 of the 329 new constables promised graduating from the Tasmania Police Academy today.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis MP, said the new constables will take police to a new record establishment.

“The 26 constables who officially start with Tasmania Police today take police numbers to 1,349 full time equivalents,” he said.

“More investment means more police so we can continue to deliver on our back to basics policing strategy.

“Our commitment to tackling crime and investing in police is one of the reasons Tasmania is one of the safest places to live and raise a family, and we thank Tasmania Police for their commitment to serving our community.”

The new constables will be stationed at Tasmania’s 24-hour police stations, including Devonport, Glenorchy, Hobart, Launceston, Bellerive, Bridgewater and Burnie, to serve on Tasmania Police’s front line.

“We wish our new officers every success as they embark on a diverse, challenging and rewarding career with Tasmania Police,” Minister Ellis said.

The Tasmanian Government has invested more than $730 million into Tasmania Police since 2014 and is committed to increasing police numbers by 329 to 1,449 by July 2026.
