Recruitment starts for Southern Remand Centre

The Tasmanian Government has begun recruiting to operate the $85 million Southern Remand Centre being built at the Risdon Prison site.

Applications have been invited for the position of Superintendent of the Southern Remand Centre.

The Superintendent will lead a team of Correctional Officers in managing the Centre, ensuring daily programs that aim to reduce the negative effects of imprisonment are available.

Applications are open until Sunday, 21 March via the Tasmanian Government jobs website www.jobs.tas.gov.au

The Southern Remand Centre is a key part of the Government’s plan to invest more than $350 million in Tasmania’s prison infrastructure, modernising the State’s correctional facilities and addressing future capacity and rehabilitation needs.

It will significantly increase the capacity of the prison system by providing accommodation for 156 male remandees housed in two accommodation units with shared recreational spaces.

Construction of the Southern Remand Centre is on track to be completed by the end of this year with full operation expected in early 2022 following a commissioning period.
