Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for the Environment

Tasmanians have donated $232,000 to more than 620 charities and community groups through the Recycle Rewards scheme.

Minister for Environment, Madeleine Ogilvie, commended the public as they continue to lend a helping hand and donate to charities and community groups.

"What a success, not just for getting plastics out of our environment, but for our highly regarded charities and communities organisations,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“Today, I was proud to celebrate the achievements of RSPCA who raised more than $15,643 through Tasmanians donating refunds from more than 150,000 eligible containers.

“I congratulate RSPCA Tasmania on this outstanding fundraising result and thank all Tasmanians for embracing the opportunity to recycle and give back at the same time.

"As an animal lover I am so pleased that RSPCA is directly benefiting from our innovative circular economy approach.

“Their contributions further add to the success of the scheme, which last month recorded its biggest month of container returns since it began on 1 May 2025.

“I am proud to see the scheme’s success so far, with more than 13 million eligible drink containers returned in January.

“This is amazing work by our fellow Tasmanians, your generosity donating funds to local charities is uplifting our entire community.

“With Recycle Rewards, Tasmanians now have a simple, practical way to be part of the solution and every container returned helps cut container litter and support creation of new jobs, local business opportunities and stronger communities.

“Since Recycle Rewards launched, thousands of Tasmanians have been choosing to turn their container refunds into donations that directly benefit local causes."
