Proud Tasmanian farmer will be sorely missed

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family of Tasmanian farmer Michael Chilvers, who died in a tragic accident at Cradle Mountain last Friday.

Mr Chilvers was a strong supporter of Tasmania’s agriculture industry, running a successful mixed farming operation in the Northern Midlands.

He was constantly looking at ways of improving and expanding his agriculture business, and in 2012 was awarded the Nuffield Farming Scholarship before being appointed to the board of Nuffield Australia. Michael also provided valuable service on the board of Tasmanian Irrigation.

More recently he served as chair of TAP AgriCo, and had extensive involvement with the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association.

Mr Chilvers was also a strong advocate for irrigation development in Tasmania and as a member of the Irrigators Group was closely involved with the Lower South Esk Irrigation Scheme.

Mr Chilvers will be sorely missed in the Tasmanian agriculture sector, and I again extend my condolences to those who knew him well.
