New Chief Inspector of Mines appointed

Congratulations to Andrew Tunstall who has been appointed as the Chief Inspector of Mines and Major Hazards.

Mr Tunstall has extensive experience in the Tasmanian mining industry, having acted in the Chief Inspector role since July 2020, and previously serving as Principal Inspector of Mines since 2008.

He has also held a number of mining roles both nationally and around the world, and his knowledge and experience will serve Tasmania well in this important area of community safety.

His appointment follows the retirement of Fred Sears, who held the position of Chief Inspector of Mines since 1996.

I would also like to thank Mr Sears for his dedication, hard work and commitment to keeping Tasmania’s mining sector safe, and particularly his involvement in the Beaconsfield mine rescue.

Mr Tunstall’s appointment will ensure continued stability in this vital area of WorkSafe Tasmania’s operations, and I look forward to working with him into the future as we continue to ensure Tasmanian workplaces are the safest in the country.
