Ministerial Forum on Multicultural Affairs in Harmony Week

This year’s Harmony Week theme “Everyone Belongs” encourages all Tasmanians to celebrate our diversity and to strengthen the bonds which keep us together as a state.

Today’s State and Territory Multicultural Affairs Ministers Forum was a great opportunity to discuss inclusivity and diversity, while also ensuring accurate information about the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccination reaches people from cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Hosted by the Federal Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon Alex Hawke MP and attended by Ministers or their representatives, we agreed to jointly work on a National Anti-Racism framework and strengthen inter-governmental cooperation on strategies to maintain Australia’s social cohesion.

This work will also inform the current review of our 2019-22 Multicultural Action Plan, which will acknowledge the impacts of COVID-19 while ensuring Tasmania remains a harmonious, inclusive and respectful island.

Tasmania is certainly stronger and more prosperous because of our multicultural heritage, and the valuable contributions of those who have chosen to call this state home, and I encourage all Tasmanians to celebrate cultural diversity this week and always.
