Construction has commenced on the new, state of the art $5 million Longford Police Station as part of the Government’s commitment to keeping Tasmanians safe and providing police with the best facilities to work in.
Remote and country area policing are a vital service for our regional communities, and this new location will provide a new station that has the space and security requirements to respond to the region’s needs.
The new station, on the corner of Cressy Road and Peel St in Longford, is a major infrastructure project for the Northern Midlands and will help stimulate the local economy as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
The new site also has the potential for future expansion to include other emergency service organisations if required.
VOS will undertake the construction of the new station, with HBV Architect undertaking the design of the new station which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
The 2020-21 Budget includes a range of measures to ensure Tasmania Police has the infrastructure, equipment and modern technology needed to keep Tasmanians safe which includes $4.5 million to complete the New Norfolk Police Station; $7 million for the refurbishment of the Launceston Police Station to undertake works that will significantly improve the working environment for officers and staff; $3.5 million for the State Operations Centre; and $46 million for Project Unify to ensure Tasmania Police has the best possible ICT systems to better respond to and solve crime.
