Boyer Mill celebrates 80 years in the Derwent

Congratulations to the Norske Skog Boyer Mill, which is celebrating 80 years of paper production in the Derwent Valley.

The mill has been a cornerstone of the local community since it was built in 1941, supporting Tasmanian jobs, families and the local economy, and the Tasmanian Government is proud to have worked with the Mill over so many years.

It was great to celebrate this milestone with the Boyer Mill team today, after what has been an incredibly tough year for so many Tasmanian businesses.

It is the resilience and strength of Tasmanian businesses like this one that has helped us through the pandemic, and we are now firmly focused on securing Tasmania’s future.

My Government’s clear plan to stimulate the economy and support jobs and businesses – like the Boyer Mill – is working. Confidence is up, our economy is growing again, we have the second lowest unemployment rate of all the states and job numbers are back to pre-pandemic levels.

There is always more to do, and we will continue working hard to support local businesses, boost the economy and create jobs for Tasmanians.
