Eric Abetz, Treasurer

The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has signed a new charter with the Tasmanian Government.

The charter will enhance government contracting opportunities for local businesses that employ Tasmanians.

Treasurer Eric Abetz stood alongside the TCCI today to sign the charter.

“Our Liberal Government is the biggest purchaser of goods, services and infrastructure in the state,” the Treasurer said.

“This underscores the importance of this charter and highlights our commitment to be the best partner we can be for local jobs and businesses.

“This Charter strengthens how Government works with business including engagement, clearer expectations and greater transparency.

“It lifts standards in government contracting focussing on fair tendering, timely payments and acting as a model commercial partner.

“It gives Tasmanian businesses greater confidence to invest, grow and employ locally.

“There is already a power of work going on to ensure that local businesses are the first to benefit from Government work – our Buy Local Policy is a great example.

“As our economy continues to grow, this agreement means opportunity for our small businesses.

“Now is the time to invest in Tasmania. Our economy is strong, unemployment is at a record low, and our businesses are the most confident in the nation.

“Tasmania is entering a new era of opportunity and we have launched into 2026 at full speed.”
