Women in Leadership Scholarship Program 2020-21

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to creating a more inclusive Tasmania that empowers and enables women and girls to fully participate in our economic, social, political and community life.

Today, I am delighted to open the next round of the Women in Leadership Scholarship Program 2020-21. This program is a joint initiative of the Tasmanian Government with Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), to support Tasmanian women to gain a greater understanding of the duties and responsibilities of being a board director.

This year, the Program is seeking applications for women working in the agriculture, forestry, fisheries, tourism & hospitality, mining, building and construction sectors.

Scholarships will be awarded to undertake the Foundations of Directorship Course. This will support early career women to develop their executive knowledge and leadership skills.

The new Women on Boards Strategy that was launched last Sunday includes an action to expand the Women in Leadership Program from 2021 to support women to develop board leadership skills at varying stages of their careers, and in areas of non-traditional employment for women.

Through this expanded program, the Government will partner with industry peak bodies to provide a range of different training options to facilitate this process.

This program is one way the Tasmanian Government is working to further women’s leadership and representation on Government boards and committees, and across the industries critical to our recovery from COVID-19.

Applications close 11 January 2021.

Information on the Program, including the guidelines and details about how to apply are available by calling the AICD on 1300 739 119 or emailing tas@aicd.com.au.
