Tasmania has recorded its largest ever international merchandise trade for a 12-month period confirming that the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s plan to secure Tasmania’s future is working.
The preliminary ABS exports* data for the year to May 2021 found that Tasmanian exports hit a record $3.802 billion which is higher than the previous 12-month record high of $3.798 billion.
At the same time, exports grew 4.3 per cent in the year to May 2021 compared to the previous year, which is the third highest growth rate in the country and demonstrates, once again, that Tasmania has what the world wants.
In another sign our economy is well and truly recovering from the pandemic, National Skills Commission data released today confirms that businesses are confident and hiring.
Tasmanian job vacancies in May are a massive 67.6 per cent higher than pre-COVID levels, the third strongest growth rate in the nation.
Further, job vacancies are higher compared to before the pandemic, in all three Tasmanian regions, up 85.8 per cent in the North West, up 71.1 per cent in the North, and up 41.9 per cent in the South.
Today’s data confirms our plan to secure Tasmania’s future is working with businesses confident, investing, hiring, exporting their goods to the world, and growing our economy.
Since the Tasmanian Liberal Government came to Office in 2014, 25,000 jobs have been created, but we know there is more work to do.
