Landcare Action Grants to support sustainable Tasmanian agriculture

The Tasmanian Government is continuing to work with farmers and landcare groups to sustain the natural resources that underpin our world-class agricultural sector.

Twenty-eight projects across the State have been funded under the latest round of the Landcare Action Grants Program.

The Program supports enhanced land management practices in the agriculture sector by co-investing with farmers, Landcare and other community organisations for practical on-ground works.

The Government has allocated $1.8 million over four years to the program, which is being delivered in partnership with the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) and Landcare Tasmania.

Under Round 3 of the program, administered by the TFGA, about $255,000 in grant funding has been allocated to the 28 projects.

Combined with in-kind contribution from the applicants, the total value of the program is about $540,000.

Some of the successful projects include activities that offer protection of natural waterways, remnant vegetation and wildlife habitats, increase of native vegetation, biodiversity and introduction on new wildlife habitat structures.

The Landcare Action Grants Program plays an important role in supporting our vital agricultural sector and the Government has allocated an additional $900,000 over four years to continue the program of practical on-ground works for sustainable agriculture with expanded scope for carbon farming initiatives, which is part of our 100 day plan.

DPIPWE is reviewing the program guidelines to include the expanded scope for carbon farming and it is expected that a new round of grant funding will be open for applications in August 2021.
