The Tasmanian Government is helping to prepare Tasmanian inmates for life after prison.
60 government computers will find a new life in Risdon Prison, enabling prisoners to develop vital skills they will need in life and the workplace.
The computers, previously used by the Department of Health and the Department of State Growth, will be able to run basic programs in the prison education and training environment.
This initiative will more than double the number of computers available for prisoner education and is a great example of Government repurposing IT equipment for the benefit of people in Tasmania Prison Service custody.
The donation is another positive step forward for the Tasmanian Prison Service’s educational offering, which now includes a partnership with TasTAFE.
The computers will be used for education-related research but also for typing letters, writing stories and creating digital art.
