600 fee free Aged and Disability care placements open

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is supporting 600 Tasmanians to take up new jobs through the $3 million Rapid Response – Careers in Aged Care and Disability Support program as part of our plan to secure Tasmania’s future.

The Rapid Response program is funding essential qualifications for those looking for a rewarding career in Aged Care and Disability, with fee-free training now available to learners.

The aged care and disability sector is one of Tasmania’s fastest growing industries employing more than 40,000, and it is estimated we will need almost 4,400 more people to take up these aged and disability care roles over the next three years.

These careers provide valuable services and help people who need support, and I would like to thank all those individuals who are making a real difference in the daily lives of so many Tasmanians.

In line with the staffing needs identified by the industry, 45 per cent of the funding will go towards training in disability care, 25 per cent to aged care and disability specialisations, 18 per cent to aged care and 12 per cent to aged care and home and community care specialisations.

This funding is particularly focussed on providing real skills and jobs pathways for those who are unemployed or underemployed to change careers to help them move into this vital sector as part of our broader $20.5 million package to help Tasmanian workers into jobs.

It will also help those displaced by COVID-19 business shutdowns find secure new jobs and addresses a key recommendation of the Premier’s Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council (PESRAC).

Anyone interested in a rewarding career in Aged and Disability care should contact Skills Tasmania on 1800 655 846 or visit www.skills.tas.gov.au
