Works begin to repair fire-ravaged library at Bowen Road Primary

Work to reinstate facilities lost in a fire in late 2022 have begun at Bowen Road Primary School.

Tasmanian firm Tiifreno Builders has been engaged to restore the school’s library space, with roofing works and window installation already well underway.

Education, Children and Youth Minister Roger Jaensch said the fire at the primary school was absolutely devastating for students, staff and the wider community.

“We are working to restore the school’s library as quickly as possible, with the hope it will be completed and returned to service by the end of Term 1,” Minister Jaensch said.

“In addition to the significant damage to the library space, the fire also destroyed four general learning areas at the school, which resulted in them requiring demolition.”

Dock4 Architects has been engaged to design the replacement facilities, and it is expected a tender process to engage a building contractor to deliver the new learning areas will be conducted later this year.

Minister Jaensch commended the students and staff at Bowen Road Primary School for their resilience and positivity following the fire in Term 4 last year.

“We will continue to provide assistance to ensure a smooth start to the school year as the site works progress,” Minister Jaensch said.
