The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to delivering more elite sporting content for Tasmanians to enjoy, to provide pathways for local athletes and to encourage greater participation in sport.
It’s great to have reigning WNBL Champions the Southside Flyers and Bendigo Spirit in the State as they prepare to play two matches in front of Tasmanian basketball fans.
Aspiring young basketballers will get the chance to witness Australia’s best women’s basketball competition and several Australian Opals players in action at MyState Bank Arena on February 26 and March 2, with tickets now on sale for both matches.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government was proud to fund these matches as a celebration of women’s sport in Tasmania, and both clubs will be involved in the community through junior basketball clinics around the State during their visit.
Our Government supports the idea of a WNBL team for Tasmania and believes that a professional women’s side will complement the men’s JackJumpers program, and provide a pathway for aspiring female basketballers in the State from grassroots competition all the way to the elite level.
I encourage fans to get along to MyState Bank Arena tomorrow and on March 2 to show their support for women’s basketball in Tasmania.
