The Tasmanian Government extends its deepest condolences to Carmel Holmes’ family and friends.
Carmel served as Liberal Member for Denison from 1984 until 1986, and was a fierce advocate in the areas of employment, youth affairs, small business and community welfare.
She was the first female Liberal Parliamentary member in 20 years, and the third in Australian history, and was also a successful businesswoman. Carmel was awarded Tasmanian Businesswoman of the Year in 1982.
Carmel’s service and dedication to the Liberal Party, the Tasmanian Parliament and the people of Tasmania will not be forgotten.
