Tourism Innovation grant supports iconic Tasmanian eatery to sow seeds of success

One of Tasmania’s premier dining destinations and cooking schools is sowing the seeds of success with a spectacular new garden and state of the art facilities following a grant by the Tasmanian Liberal Government.

Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Jeremy Rockliff said the Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering on its long term plan to do what matters by investing in the State’s tourism and hospitality sector to keep the economy strong and create jobs.

Under the $8 million Tourism Innovation Grant Program, the Agrarian Kitchen received $250,000 in funding to expand and relocate the cooking school and develop a one-acre walled market garden.

“The Agrarian Kitchen is one of Tasmania’s iconic culinary experiences, embracing sustainable practices and the farm-to-table ethos,” Mr Rockliff said.

“It seamlessly integrates traditional practices in the kitchen and the garden to create a unique and contemporary food experience that showcases the absolute best of what Tasmania can offer.

“The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to support the ongoing investment in this iconic business and I’m thrilled to see the outcomes of this investment with the newly developed, state of the art cooking school, and the spectacular market garden.”

The new garden will also be used for guided garden tours, gardening classes and an outdoor events space for weddings.

The Agrarian Kitchen was founded by Severine Demanet and Rodney Dunn as a cooking school after the couple moved to Tasmania from Sydney in 2007.

The evolution of the Agrarian Kitchen over the past 15 years has culminated in an incredible culinary facility in the historic Willow Court complex.

“The philosophy of the Agrarian Kitchen is to connect back to earth, and grow and cook authentic food with real ingredients.”

Premier Rockliff said our Liberal Government will continue to support businesses like the Agrarian Kitchen which make a valuable contribution to regional Tasmania.

“The hospitality industry employs 8 per cent of Tasmanians, including thousands in regions such as the Derwent Valley,” Premier Rockliff said.

“It’s fantastic to see passionate operators like Rodney and Severine have the confidence to invest in growing this business.

“Our Government is doing what matters for Tasmanians by keeping the economy strong and investing in unique tourism experiences to help grow Tasmania’s brand.”
