Ticket to Play program welcomes circus activities

The Rockliff Liberal Government is doing what matters for Tasmanians by ensuring that our young people don’t miss out on opportunities to be active.

Circus has always captured the imagination of children while also being a great way to get active, and now, the Rockliff Liberal Government’s Ticket to Play program has expanded to include circus activities.

Ticket to Play allows eligible children to receive two $100 vouchers per year for approved activities.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nic Street, said Ticket to Play has provided thousands of families with financial help, covering the cost of sports and recreation activities.

“This program is about making it more affordable for children and families to get active, especially in a time when household budgets are tight,” Minister Street said.

“So far, this financial year, we’ve provided more than 7,500 vouchers, up by more than 1,200 at the same time for the previous year – a welcome growth in popularity.

“We know it can be hard for kids to settle on the activities they want to have a go at, so we’ve made sure the Ticket to Play program covers a wide variety of options.

“This is why non-traditional sports such as circus are now eligible to apply as approved activities.

“Circus is a great way for people to learn new skills, improve their fitness and get all the benefits that being active provides.

“Importantly, we’re always pleased to receive applications from sporting or recreation groups to become approved providers and we now have two circus groups on the books, The Circus Studio in Kingston and Slipstream Circus in Ulverstone.

“The expansion of Ticket to Play is all about making sure young Tasmanians from across the state, no matter their background, have every opportunity to get involved in sport and recreation from an early age,” he said.
