Team Tasmania is heading to the 2023 WorldSkills Australia National Championships in Melbourne in August this year.
Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth, Felix Ellis, said 13 young VET-skilled Tasmanians have been selected to represent the State.
“WorldSkills Australia is the nation’s biggest vocational education and excellence competition for trainees and apprentices under the age of 23, with our Tassie team to compete against more than 400 competitors from around the country,” Mr Ellis said.
“This year we’ll be competing across industries including building and construction, manufacturing and engineering, patisserie, cooking and baking, beauty, and social and personal services.
“Impressively, nearly all the members of Team Tasmania 2023 are TasTAFE-trained, a credit to our public VET provider and the hardworking teachers and trainers who make it what it is.”
Minister Ellis said the Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering on its promise to give young people the education and training they need.
He said he was confident, come August, the whole State will be behind the team as they chase skills gold for Tasmania.
“The Worldskills National Championships are a great opportunity for young Tasmanians to put their skills to the test, improve their career prospects and make their mark in their chosen trade.
“The competition also highlights how rewarding a skills-based career can be and the opportunities it presents, inspiring more school leavers and job seekers to get into a trade and become part of the next generation of industry leaders.
“Those taking part are also skills ambassadors that demonstrate to others that success is possible via a trade or skill-based career.”
The three-day national event will be held Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 17-19 August 2023.
