Tasmanian company Sustainable Forest Management keeps jobs local

The Tasmanian Government welcomes local company Sustainable Forest Management’s (SFM) commitment to New Norfolk with the official opening of its new office today.

Directly employing 28 FTEs, SFM will also provide local employment for more than 100 sub-contracted truck drivers, plant operators and support services providers.

SFM will be managing the former Norske Skog forest assets on behalf of Australian-based international forestry investor New Forests, following its acquisition earlier this year.

SFM will harvest up to 400,000 tonnes of pine annually, with the majority still going to the Norske Boyer mill.
This is great news for the community and I congratulate New Forests and SFM on this outcome, and look forward to working with them going forward.

Forestry is a cornerstone of our economy and has a key role to play in our plan to rebuild a stronger Tasmania.
We understand that our key export sectors such as forestry, underpin our economy and create thousands of jobs, supporting rural and regional communities.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government remains committed to a sustainable forest industry and ensuring the best outcomes for the Tasmanian economy, local communities and workers, especially as we work towards recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.
