Tasmanian Proclamation of King Charles III

Tomorrow an event at Government House will be held to mark the Proclamation in Tasmania of King Charles III.

The Proclamation is the official announcement of the new Monarch, His Majesty King Charles the Third.

The Proclamation in Tasmania follows a National Proclamation in Canberra by the Governor-General, and the official Proclamation of the King at the Accession Council in the UK on Saturday night (Australian time), formalising Charles as King.

Her Excellency, the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania and I will sign the Proclamation, before the Governor stands to read the Proclamation to the assembled guests.

The Bishop of Tasmania, the Right Reverent Richard Condie will then read the prayer Collect for the Monarch from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

This will be followed by the playing of the Anthems – first the Royal Anthem, and then the Australian National Anthem.

The Proclamation will be published in a Special Gazette on Monday 12 September 2022.

Prior to the Proclamation, I will join Her Excellency and Honorary Consul of the United Kingdom, Mr Frank McGregor, at Her Majesty’s Main Drive oak tree, to lay wreaths in her honour.

The oak tree was planted by Her Majesty on 21 February 1954 – on her first visit to Tasmania just eight months after her coronation.

This will be followed by the official signing of the Condolence Book, which will remain at Government House, and the Condolence Sheets, which will be collated with other sheets from around Tasmania, before being bound and sent to the Royal Family.

Tasmanians can send their condolences to the Royal Family by signing the condolence sheets available at Government House, Parliament House and Service Tasmania service centres, or through digital condolence books available online at the following websites:
