Scorecard highlights sector ploughing ahead

A new interactive Tasmania Agri-food Scorecard Dashboard has been developed to provide more timely insights into the performance of the sector.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jo Palmer said the dashboard will provide the latest information in a dynamic way with data updated regularly as it comes in.

The dashboard is in addition to the Tasmanian Agri-Food ScoreCard, released annually, which has confirmed the sector’s ability to capitalise on our climate, soils, natural resources, biosecurity and irrigation.

The scorecard shows that 2021–22 was another year of growth for Tasmanian agriculture, with the gross value of agricultural production growing by 2 per cent to $2.34 billion.

This compares to a revised figure of $2.3 billion in 2020-21.

The overall agri-food value, which includes both agriculture and seafood, which saw a strong 5 per cent growth to $3.65 billion.

Seafood's value increased by 13 per cent to $1.34 billion, with salmonids leading at $1.17 billion.

Minister Palmer said the results were a testament to the hard work and dedication of our producers across the state.

“We know that Tasmanian primary producers are growing and value adding the products that the world wants,” Minister Palmer said.

“They continue to punch above their weight and are committed to sustainable growth and finding innovative ways to farm.”

Pasture-based industries accounted for around two-thirds of farm gate value due to favourable seasonal conditions and access to irrigation, with high livestock prices and milk prices underpinning growth in farm gate value.

Dairy was again the highest value agricultural category increasing by 3 per cent to $506 million.
