Scallop season opening

The Easter break is a fantastic opportunity to relax and spend time fishing with family and friends.

Importantly, the recreational scallop dive season is set to open prior to Easter, commencing this Saturday 27 March.

It will remain open until 31 July 2021 for all State waters, other than the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, which remains closed.

A recreational sea fishing licence is required to participate in the recreational scallop fishery.  Scallops may only be taken by hand and only the licence holder can dive for scallops.

Divers cannot take scallops on behalf of another scallop licence holder.  Aboriginal people engaged in aboriginal fishing are exempt from holding a recreational fishing licence but must comply with all other rules.

Recreational scallop dive licences can be purchased at Service Tasmania or online at www.fishing.tas.gov.au/licence

For more information, go to the DPIPWE website: https://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/sea-fishing-aquaculture/recreational-fishing/scallop-fishing

I hope you get the opportunity to get out on the water over the coming break and support our regional communities.
