Roadworkers’ safety highlighted in new campaign

We want every driver to understand that reduced speed limits are put in place around roadworks for a good reason. People’s lives and wellbeing are at stake and the cost can be high.

This is why the Tasmanian Liberal Government strongly supports a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the need for safety around roadworks sites.

A new round of advertising illustrating the impact of crashes at roadwork sites on the families of roadworkers has been launched.

The Your Speed is Our Safety campaign is being led by the Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania with support from the Tasmanian Government and the Traffic Management Association of Australia.

Tragically, deaths and injuries have occurred on Tasmanian roads over the years due to the risks of working close to traffic. Reports of incidents within roadwork sites remain frustratingly common.

The Tasmanian Government is strongly focused on addressing that. It is imperative we improve road users’ driving habits and awareness of the consequences of their actions.

We back the Civil Contractors Federation and Traffic Management Association of Australia’s ongoing safety campaign.

The latest round of advertising really highlights the human consequences of unsafe driving.

In presenting the trauma that flows from a moment of inattention or failure to reduce speed on the families of victims, these advertisements will hopefully prompt greater awareness among road users when they approach roadworks.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to continue its support for this campaign.
