Around 62,000 students will return to the classroom today for the first day of Term 1.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff encouraged students to seize the opportunities awaiting them.
“2023 holds so many exciting possibilities for our learners, and I hope every single child and young person grasps the opportunities presented to them and achieves their full potential,” Premier Rockliff said.
“I acknowledge that the disruption of the pandemic has been difficult on all Tasmanians, but particularly our students, teachers, staff and parents.
“It is my hope that 2023 will provide more stability for our students so that they are able to truly invest themselves in their learnings.
“Our principals, teachers and support staff in schools and the Department for Education, Children and Young People work hard every day to provide a positive educational experience for every student and I thank them for their service.
“We know that education is the single most powerful driver for improving economic and social outcomes in Tasmania, including health, happiness and productivity, and that’s why our Government is investing more than $8 billion over the next four years in education so that we are able to continue to deliver a high quality, equitable education system that supports the engagement of all learners.
“The Tasmanian Liberal Government is building an education system for the future.
“We want to equip our teachers with state-of-the-art facilities which is why we are delivering the largest state investment in education infrastructure in more than 20 years.
“Our plan is delivering new schools in Legana and Brighton– as well as a brand-new purpose-built North West Support School - and major upgrades right across the State including:
“Regardless of background or circumstance, every young person deserves a quality education which is why we are also continuing to roll out our $10 million statewide program to build contemporary classrooms for 12 Tasmanian schools - many of which are in low socio-economic areas.
“I wish all students, teachers, staff and parents the very best as they return to school for 2023.”
