Work on an online portal as part of the Fire Permit System has commenced as the Tasmanian Liberal Government looks to improve fire safety across the State.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said that this portal will complement Tasmania’s nation-leading, tenure-blind Fuel Reduction Program.
“Fuel reduction burning saves lives. During the election we announced we will work together with the Tasmanian Fire Service to implement an online portal for fire permits,” Minister Ellis said.
“This work is now underway to make it easier for farmers and rural landowners to conduct burn offs on their property.
“We aim to bring this portal is in effect by next permit season, making it an even smoother process for landowners.
“This new portal complements our $9 million a year investment into our nation-leading fuel reduction program to keep Tasmanian communities safe.”
With fire permits lifting across Tasmania, except for King Island, from 2am Tuesday, 30 April, Minister Ellis encouraged landowners to make the most of the fuel reduction conditions.
“This is a great time of year to make summer safer, though we encourage landowners to continue to be responsible when conducting burns," Minister Ellis said.
“If you are planning a burn, it is vital you are well equipped and that you communicate with the owners of neighbouring properties throughout the process.”
