As Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, I am pleased to formally launch the Going to Court video series today.
The videos were a collaborative effort between the Department of Justice and key external organisations, made possible through a grant from the Solicitor’s Guarantee Fund.
The videos explain the court process as simply as possible to give viewers an overview of what to expect. They use a combination of graphics, onscreen text, a voice-over, and footage of a person navigating the court process to reinforce the key messages.
The series includes the following four videos:
The videos will provide a valuable resource for a range of vulnerable Tasmanians who may otherwise have difficulty understanding the requirements and processes of going to court.
In creating the videos, the Department of Justice has worked closely with the Association for Children with Disability (Tas), Brain Injury Association of Tasmania, Speak Out Association of Tasmania, the Magistrates Court, Equal Opportunity Tasmania and Tasmania Legal Aid, to ensure the videos met the specific needs of the target audience of people with disability and/or low literacy.
The videos are available on the Magistrates Court website: https://www.magistratescourt.tas.gov.au/going_to_court/going-to-court-videos
