The Rockliff Liberal Government continues to invest in important Tasmanian tourism infrastructure to support regional economies and create jobs.
Minister for Parks, Nick Duigan, said the new boardwalk at Dove Lake is a great example of supporting the iconic and extremely popular Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.
“The project is part of the Tasmanian Government’s $26.8 million investment towards the implementation of the Cradle Mountain Master Plan and delivers on a commitment to provide infrastructure for visitors and locals alike ensuring the long-term sustainable future of this iconic park,” Minister Duigan said.
“Carefully designed to reduce the impact of infrastructure at the site, the new boardwalk caters for visitor expectations at one of Tasmania’s premier tourist destinations and ensures the sustainability and resilience of the park.
“The boardwalk connection from the Dove Lake viewing shelter allows people of all abilities to access the viewing platform and enjoy the values of this extraordinary World Heritage site.
“The new boardwalk and Dove Lake viewing shelter sits within the area of the previous carpark footprint and will include interpretive signage to enhance the visitor experience and inspire a deeper connection to the landscape and Outstanding Universal Value of this Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.”
Minister Duigan said the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is a key tourism destination welcoming more than 280,000 visitors a year and project like this helps to future proof a destination of global significance in the cultural and natural world.
