Literacy framework consultation paper released

Improving literacy levels is critical to ensuring all Tasmanians can engage fully with family, community and work.

That’s why I’m pleased to announce the consultation paper has been released on the development of a community-wide framework to achieve a literate Tasmania.

In September 2021, the Government appointed an expert Literacy Advisory Panel to develop a framework which covers the early years, schools and adults.

The aim of the consultation is to gather information on current activities to improve literacy in Tasmania, as well as to hear views on what’s working well, where the gaps are and what additional supports are needed.

All Tasmanians are invited to have their say on the future of literacy learning in Tasmania, with the Panel’s first community consultation now open and closing on 25 March 2022.

The Panel want to consult meaningfully with Tasmanians to ensure it includes those who have lived experience of literacy challenges.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to improving education in Tasmania, as it is the single most powerful driver for improving social and economic outcomes, including health, life expectancy, happiness, and productivity.

I look forward to receiving the Panel’s community-wide framework when it is delivered in March 2023.
