Construction of the new helipad at the Launceston General Hospital has reached another key milestone with the installation of the aerobridge linking the helipad to the hospital.
The Tasmanian Government has committed $15 million to deliver the helipad, which will support our highly trained paramedics, emergency medicine specialists and nurses, and our aeromedical contractor, Rotor-Lift Aviation, in the work they do every day to save lives.
Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett said the aerobridge will enable the rapid transit of patients to and from the helipad and medical services inside the hospital.
“Delivering better health outcomes for Tasmanians is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future and this is another significant step in the right direction,” Minister Barnett said.
“The installation marks the completion of construction of the helideck structure which has been achieved through the collaboration of local businesses Vos Construction and Haywards steel fabrication – supporting hundreds of local jobs from two proud Tasmanian businesses.
“Upon completion, this new helipad will ensure patients in need of critical and life-saving medical intervention can be transported safely and efficiently to the LGH.
“It’s more evidence of our strong investments in health infrastructure that will support our healthcare workforce and deliver better care for patients.”
The Department of Health has worked closely with Ambulance Tasmania, LGH clinical staff and Rotor-Lift Aviation to deliver the upgraded helipad, which is a part of the hospital’s masterplan.
