Labor continues to play politics on health

The Labor Opposition continues to show it is all politics and no plan with its shameful deceit over the need to retain GP capacity in East Devonport.

"Labor has shown they are only interested in trying to score political points rather than deliver real health outcomes with their pointless commentary, while we've been rolling up our sleeves and consulting the community about options and solutions,” said Minister for Health, Guy Barnett.

”State Labor would be better directing their energies to lobbying their federal colleagues to properly fund Medicare and deliver on their responsibility to fully back Tasmania’s front line general practitioners.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government is continuing to support the East Devonport community, and communities throughout the state who are suffering due to the Federal Government’s failure to properly support our hardworking general practitioners.

“Tasmania is bearing the brunt of a chronic shortage of GPs. This is having serious flow out effects right across our health system, including putting additional strain on our hospitals, and in particular our emergency departments.

“The Federal Government needs to step up and do more to support our GPs both in the short term and the long term.

“They have been totally missing in action when it comes to the latest GP clinic merger.

“Given this failure, the Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to provide whatever support we can to help our GPs deliver the health care so necessary across our state.”
