Increasing transparency in the State Service

The Tasmanian Government will move to increase transparency in the state service by making more information publicly available on the routine disclosure.

The Commission of Inquiry recommended the Head of the State Service should monitor and publicly report annually on the management of misconduct matters related to child sexual abuse or related conduct.

Under the recommendation, Heads of Agency will be required to report quarterly to the Head of the State Service.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said given our government is already routinely disclosing this information, we intend to bring forward this recommendation and provide further details of the disclosure, including the breakdown of individual agencies.

“We will begin to provide annual information in addition to the routine disclosure, with the first of such reports to be available towards the end of next week,” the Premier said.

The first report will publish the total numbers of state servants still suspended as at 30 September (the third quarter), categorised by Agency.

Our Government will implement the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry, and this demonstrates of our government’s commitment to increase accountability and transparency.
