The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to delivering more homes, faster for vulnerable Tasmanians and that’s why we have created Homes Tasmania.
Following an extensive recruitment process, Ms Eleri Morgan-Thomas has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Homes Tasmania, tasked with delivering on the Government’s commitment for 10,000 new social and affordable homes and units by 2032.
We set an ambitious target to build 1,500 dwellings by June 2023 and we are tracking well with 735 of these homes and units completed as at 31 December 2022.
“Ms Morgan-Thomas has extensive experience in housing and homelessness in both the government and non-government sectors, including designing the NSW Social and Affordable Housing Fund, establishing Mission Australia Housing and Chairing National Shelter,’’ Premier Jeremy Rockliff said.
``Ms Morgan-Thomas will bring this wealth of experience and knowledge to her leadership of Homes Tasmania and most importantly, work across the sector to improve housing outcomes for Tasmanians.’’
Guy Barnett, Minister for State Development, Construction and Housing said he was confident that Ms Morgan-Thomas, along with the Homes Tasmania Board, will drive innovation and deliver homes faster for vulnerable Tasmanians.
“The priorities for Homes Tasmania will be to finalise the Tasmanian Housing Strategy, which will be a 20-year blueprint to help guide the types of accommodation we build in the future, along with how and where these new homes should be built.
“On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I also want to thank and acknowledge Mr Peter White who has played a pivotal role in creating Homes Tasmania and acted as CEO since December 2022.
“Prior to that, as Deputy Secretary of the former Department of Communities Tasmania, Mr White has made an outstanding contribution to housing services in Tasmania for many years, enriching the lives of countless Tasmanians and the Tasmanian Government is very grateful for his expertise and commitment,’’ Minister Barnett said.
Ms Morgan-Thomas will start in the role in March 2023.
