Grants to support heritage properties

A new grants scheme to support Tasmania’s valuable heritage buildings is now open for applications.

Minister for Heritage, Nick Duigan said Heritage Tasmania has already received significant interest in the Grants Scheme following the release of the guidelines late last year and expects to receive a large number of applications.

“I look forward to seeing the outcomes of these investments and working closely with our heritage stakeholders to conserve Tasmania’s unique built heritage and leverage it for the benefit of Tasmania and Tasmanians,” Minister Duigan said.

Heritage property owners are encouraged to apply for funding under the new grants scheme to help ensure the state’s built heritage places remain valued, protected and maintained.

“A total of $1 million is available through the first round of the Built Heritage Grants Scheme, offered through two programs, the Conservation Program and the Activation Program,” Minister Duigan said.

“Under the Conservation Program, small grants of up to $20,000 are available for conservation works to Tasmanian heritage listed properties.

“These smaller grants are designed to support owners of these properties to conserve and restore these places so that they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

“While grants of up to $200,000 are available under the Activation Program for projects designed to reinvigorate heritage places.

“This is to assist heritage buildings be better utilised to increase visitor demand and experience, as well as develop our built heritage conservation workforce.”

The grants scheme is part of the Rockliff Liberal Government’s $4.5 million investment over three years to do what matters to Tasmanians and support the State’s heritage sector to revitalise our unique heritage properties.
