Glenorchy jobs on show

Since opening, the Glenorchy Jobs Hub as helped more than 200 people into work and the Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to ensuring this important work can continue.

That is why I am delighted to announce our Government will invest an additional $1.65 million over three years to enable the Glenorchy Jobs Hub to continue supporting job seekers to find work in their local area and help employers find the right people for jobs in their business.

Since opening in August 2021, the Hub has helped more than 200 people into work, with 60 of those placements occurring in February alone, and more than 500 participants have registered.

This important work continues to expand, with the Glenorchy Jobs Hub hosting its first Jobs Fair on March 22.

Connecting job seekers with local employers is a priority for our Government and the success of this Hub is a testament to all those involved, including the very important business partners.

Additionally, our Government will also provide the Glenorchy Jobs Hub $250,000 over two years for the pilot Youth Connectors Program, which supports young people trying to access work and training.

This $1.9 million investment builds on our initial $1.3 million contribution to establish the Glenorchy Jobs Hub and will ensure the great outcomes and connections already being achieved  can continue.

Importantly, this now also aligns with the funding of the other Hubs funded through the Regional Jobs Hub Network.

Glenorchy City Council Mayor Bec Thomas said the Jobs Hub was a crucial link to connect local people with local employment.

“Glenorchy is changing with more businesses and opportunities seeking to set up shop in our municipality. The Jobs Hub seeks to connect the right people with the right employer and contribute to the success and longevity of our city’s economy,” Ms Thomas said.

The Jobs Hub services the needs of job seekers and employers across the Glenorchy Local Government Area and is part of Jobs Tasmania’s state-wide network of Regional Jobs Hubs.

The Regional Jobs Hub Network involves seven Hubs operating across Tasmania to service all areas of the State and aims to help more than 2000 additional Tasmanians into work over the next three years.

The outlook for local employment outcomes in the Glenorchy area is very positive with significant opportunities for employment growth across a range of diverse industries.

The Glenorchy Jobs Fair will be held on Tuesday, March 22 on the Glenorchy Council Lawns and will showcase more than 30 local employers to highlight the work and training opportunities, and possible career pathways, that are available in the Glenorchy region.

The Jobs Fair will be a fantastic opportunity for local jobseekers and employers to come together in one space, forming connections and providing insight into the diverse industries and skills that Glenorchy’s local business industry offers.

“I am proud to see this event hosted in the heart of our Glenorchy central business district, which has become a key location for our established Jobs Hub,” said Bec Thomas.

“Events like the Jobs Fair allow everyone a chance to meet industry leaders in Glenorchy and find the next step in their chosen career.”
