Derwent ferry comes to Saturdays

From today, the highly popular Derwent ferry service will sail on Saturdays, providing another transport option between the City of Hobart and Bellerive.

The success and popularity of the weekday Derwent Ferry service has seen it extended to Saturdays to cater to weekend shoppers and diners as well as our hard-working retail and hospitality staff and emergency and healthcare workers – providing a welcome boost to small businesses on both sides of the river.

Services will run between Bellerive and Hobart from 9:00am until 4:00pm each Saturday.

The choice of the ferry or Metro bus services gives the travelling public options for crossing the river, while leaving the car at home.

Passenger feedback on the existing weekday service continues to be extremely positive with a majority of passengers now stating the ferry is their preferred commuter choice.

With 130,000 passengers having already made the choice to take the ferry during its weekday sailings, we have listened to passengers and local business owners to extend the service and are quietly optimistic that Saturdays will be just as popular.

The new Saturday sailings give passengers the option of taking the trip from the eastern shore to visit the likes of the iconic Salamanca Markets, the Hobart waterfront dining scene, city shopping or to simply enjoy the river.

In the other direction, passengers can head across to Bellerive to relax in the surrounds of the waterfront precinct, Kangaroo Bay or Bellerive Beach while also providing easy access to the Rosny shopping precinct, the Tasmanian Produce Market and Blundstone Arena.

Coming into the warmer months and festive season, passengers will now also be able to plan their travel to attend events such as work end-of-year parties, the annual Christmas pageant and the Christmas Eve BBL, all without the stress of finding a car park.

Importantly the ferry continues to be another way we are helping to reduce travel times and ease congestion on our roads and provide commuters with an enjoyable travel option.
