Backing Tasmanian manufacturing exports

Thirteen Tasmanian businesses have been awarded grants totalling more than $450,000 to assist in expanding their manufacturing capabilities to help them lock-in more growth and export opportunities.

Premier and Minister for Trade and Major Investment, Jeremy Rockliff said the Advanced Manufacturing Accelerating Growth Program was about supporting Tasmanian manufacturers to expand their business.

“The Tasmanian Liberal Government is backing businesses to grow into overseas markets, creating more local jobs and supporting our economy,” Premier Rockliff said.

“A wide variety of advanced manufacturers have been successful in the latest grant round including younger, expanding businesses like Tasman Sea Salt, the Tasmanian Tonic Company and Hale Farm.”

It is anticipated the grant funding will encourage $1.5 million in investment and generate more than 61 new manufacturing jobs within Tasmania.

Premier Rockliff said the manufacturing industry already generated more than $2 billion for the Tasmanian economy, with a turnover of $8.3 billion, while directly employing more than 20,000 Tasmanians.

“Manufacturing accounts for more than 64 per cent of all Tasmanian exports using smarter innovations and approaches,” Premier Rockliff said.

“This round of the Advanced Manufacturing Accelerating Growth Program takes the number of projects funded to 51, with a Government investment of $3.5 million resulting in about $ 9.7 million in overall investment.

“This success is exactly why we have committed to expanding this program with a further $1 million, as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“This additional investment will help even more Tasmanian manufacturers to become more competitive, resilient and able to compete in global markets.

“As we keep saying, Tasmania has what the world wants and we’re helping take it to them.”

The next round of the Advanced Manufacturing Accelerating Growth Program is expected to open in the new financial year. More information is available on the State Growth website.
