The latest Agribusiness Insights Report illustrates the outstanding agricultural sector we have in Tasmania and the excellent work our producers are doing with the support of the Tasmanian Liberal Government.
The Agribusiness Insights Report for 2021-2022 highlights some of the positive outcomes being achieved across our agricultural sectors in the spring-summer harvest season, and figures show seasonal conditions have led to exceptional production volumes for multiple commodities.
Conditions through spring and summer led to exceptional production volumes, particularly in red meat, berries, peas and beans, and field crops such as canola. There is strong growth in the dairy industry, and the quality of wine grapes this year is expected to be excellent.
Confidence among Tasmanian farmers continues to be strong with the Report also highlighting prices across most of the agricultural sectors continue to remain at near or record highs. Encouragingly, these prices are expected to continue.
Tasmanian exporters had another excellent year in 2020-21, with the overall value for land-based agri-food products in the year the second highest after a record-breaking year in 2019-20, with key commodities of dairy and cherries increasing over the previous 12 months.
The Agribusiness Insights Report is released annually after each peak production season and is developed in consultation with industry partners and stakeholders. It provides the latest information on key indicators, emerging opportunities, threats and trends in agriculture, in addition to information on trade and exports, and agricultural production.
The Report details how the state’s agricultural sector continues to adapt and grow, and the development of the Report is an initiative under the Government’s Competitiveness of Tasmanian Agriculture White Paper, which identified ‘responsive to change’ as an emerging priority.
We remain firmly on track to sustainably grow the farmgate value of Tasmanian agriculture to $10 billion by 2050, and we are building on our opportunities and natural advantages to support our farmers and rural and regional communities to thrive.
