A new state-of-the-art, centre-hung video cube has been installed as part of the Silverdome’s $12 million upgrade.
Featuring high-definition LED screens visible from all areas of the venue, the $430,000 system will provide live vision, instant replays, event information, scoring, sponsor content and immersive entertainment that enhances every event experience.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the installation would transform the experience for spectators, athletes and event organisers alike.
“The new video cube, positioned above the new sports floor, delivers a world-class digital experience and establishes the Silverdome as the premier indoor venue in Tasmania’s North,” Minister Duigan said.
“This is a significant investment in modern venue technology. The video cube is an iconic feature of contemporary arenas around the world and will dramatically enhance the atmosphere and presentation of events at the Silverdome.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is delivering the sporting infrastructure our communities need.
“The installation of the cube further strengthens the Silverdome's position as the northern home of the Tasmanian JackJumpers and Tasmania Jewels, as well as the home of cycling and a destination for major events.
“For athletes, fans and event organisers, this technology delivers a richer and more engaging experience, whether it’s basketball, cycling or a concert. It will enhance the venue’s ability to host national sport and entertainment content and create new commercial opportunities through digital advertising.
“Local audio visual specialist, RoundTable, procured and installed the system, highlighting the expertise that exists within Tasmania’s growing technology sector.”
Stadiums Tasmania’s Chief Operating Officer, David Large, said the cube installation reflects the organisation’s commitment to improving fan experiences in Tasmania’s major venues.
“The Silverdome redevelopment is about more than upgrading facilities,” Mr Large said.
“It's about creating a venue that can deliver exceptional experiences, attract new opportunities to Tasmania and serve its community for decades to come.”
“The video cube is a striking example of that vision in action.”
The video cube will be fully operational for the JackJumpers and Jewels games in November.
