Visitors to the Recherche Bay Nature Recreation Area will soon be able to enjoy improved access to the Catamaran boat ramp and campground with works nearing completion.
Minister for Parks, Nick Duigan, said the works are part of a $3.25 million upgrade delivered by the Tasmanian Government.
“The completed works in the Cockle Creek precinct will enhance the visitor experience while protecting the site's significant cultural and natural values,” Minister Duigan said.
“The upgrades will improve access and parking for boat trailers using the existing boat launch site, established designated camping sites and enhanced traffic management throughout the area.
“These improvements will help visitors safely access and enjoy this popular destination while ensuring its unique environmental and heritage values are preserved for future generations.
“The Catamaran pontoon jetty was recently replaced, delivering enhanced accessibility and functionality for recreational boating users, through Marine and Safety Tasmania’s investment in recreational boating infrastructure.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is investing in our outstanding experiences in our national parks."
The project will be completed in time for peak visitor season and is being delivered by Tasmanian civil construction company Andrew Walter Constructions, supported by local subcontractors.
The upgrades form part of the Cockle Creek Precinct Site Plan, which also delivered new visitor shelter facilities and toilets at Cockle Creek in 2020.
Additional works are planned to further improve camping facilities and access at Cockle Creek, with construction expected to commence in the coming months and continue after the peak summer season.
