Dark Mofo 2026 generates over $70 million

The 2026 Dark Mofo attracted 115,988 individual visitors, recorded 393,780 total attendees and injected $71.8 million into the Tasmanian economy.

The 12-day program also posted 306,601 visitor nights across Tasmania. Interstate visitors accounted for approximately 261,700 nights, overseas visitors for approximately 15,500 nights.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said this iconic winter event is a major drawcard for visitors to Tasmania.

"Locals, interstate and international visitors have flocked to Tasmania to revel in what is Australia's premiere winter event," Premier Rockliff said.

"The 2026 Dark Mofo has been a resounding success, attracting nearly 400,000 attendees and injecting $71.8 million into our broader economy.

"We are building an even better Tasmania by backing in our tourism and events industry. This is a major win and sits well for the continued success of Dark Mofo and I want to congratulate the entire team behind it for their ongoing success."

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, said the Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future was backing in key events.

"Hotels were bursting, restaurants were full and Tasmania benefits as a result," Minister Jaensch said.

"Arts, music and cultural events are huge economic multipliers, and not just for Hobart and Launceston, but across the State.

"These hundreds of thousands of visitors we welcomed didn't just take part in the festivities, they explored our island home too, spreading the benefits statewide.

"As a Government we are proud to support Dark Mofo and look forward to building on this success."
